Applications are now open for the 2025 BBC World Service Languages Future Voices Trainee Scheme. BBC World Service Languages is seeking talented, people with a disability to join theĀ Future VoicesĀ trainee scheme. This aĀ four-monthĀ entry level paid program offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in journalism and kickstart your career at one of the worldās leading broadcasters.
Are you a person with a disability, a fluent speaker of EnglishĀ andĀ any one of these World Service languages; French, Gahuza Swahili, Portuguese, Arabic, Amharic , Tigrinya, Oromo, Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa, Tamasheq, Dzarma, Kikuyu, Kalenjin, Spanish, Malagasy or Dholuo?
Requirements
- Aspiring journalistsĀ with a disability who are just starting out or at the beginning of their career and are passionate about finding and telling stories for a global audience.
- You should be curious about the world and fluent in one of the BBC World Service Languages mentioned above.
Eligibility
To be eligible for this opportunity, you must:
- Be registered as a person with a disability with the National Council for Persons with Disabilities.Ā
- Be aged 18 or over when the schemeĀ starts in April 2025.
- Be legally allowed to work in Kenya full time
- Be fluent in English and one of the languages we have listed in this advert.
- Be available from April ā July 2025.
Application Procedure:
Once you begin your application you will need to answer our eligibility questions. Ā This will be followed up via email with a series of questions to understand your interest in journalism and creating content. You should be ready to:
- Submit a news story idea
- Answer a few questions via video recording based on your motivations for applying and your passion for this area. This will be requested in both English and your second language.
- Share with us at least one item of journalistic content youāve created ā this could be a social media post or something published on a digital platform, in print, TV, radio or podcast.Ā Ā
