Racing games are frequently used as a showcase for the release of a new console, but every year also sees the release of new games in a category that has its share of ardent followers. How many other genres, after all, have special accessories for playing them?
Gran Turismo, Need for Speed, and new entrants in the F1, WRC, and Horizon Chase series made 2022 a fantastic year for racers of all stripes. They demonstrated how racing games are much more than just automobiles racing around a track.
Grand Touring 7
Gran Turismo 7 is a very welcome return to form after over ten years since the previous conventional, numbered GT iteration and coming just in time for Sony's biggest first-party series' 25th anniversary. Gran Turismo 7 is as technologically advanced as it is warmly nostalgic, with classic Gran Turismo tracks making a comeback with the true single-player career experience that the PS1 first pioneered. Gran Turismo 7 is without a doubt the greatest the series has been since it completely dominated the genre throughout the PS1 and PS2 generations. It features stunning visuals, an excellent driving experience, and more personalization choices than ever before. It is very disappointing that the full extent of its predatory microtransaction system wasn't revealed until after its release. Additionally, a lengthy and unexpected server outage soon after the game's release that prevented us from playing for more than a day didn't exactly help the always-online game's case. Despite these flaws, the game is still a damn great racing game Drive Mad.
F1 22
Codemasters' long-running F1 series had its own slightly overdue facelift this year, with some freshened-up presentation coming alongside this season's brand-new vehicles, coupled with some of the largest rule shake-ups in the sport in four decades. F1 22 maintains this series' podium position with its first-rate graphics and handling, class-leading career mode (bolstered by new budget options to suit veteran players who may be getting a little tired of clawing their way up from the bottom of the grid every year), and its appealing range of difficulty options and assists - even if the new lifestyle-focused outfit and living space customisation mode is a little naff.
Extreme Off-Road Automobiles
Extreme Off-Road Cars 2 offers a genuine test of your technical driving skills and inspires inventive movements with its five cars and nine off-road routes to compete on. As it can be played immediately from your computer, you may leave Facebook or wherever you are and get into a Range Rover that has been adjusted by Bowler. Feel free to start your climb to the top of a series of highly dubious slopes from there.
