Nigeria readies for 68th UN Tourism CAF Meeting to shape Africa’s tourism future

The Federal Republic of Nigeria is gearing up to host one of the continent’s most significant tourism gatherings — the 68th Meeting of the UN Tourism Regional Commission for Africa (CAF), alongside a high-level Thematic Conference on Boosting Social Impact and Education in Tourism through Innovation, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Creative Industries. Scheduled from 11 to 13 June 2025, this momentous event is organised in collaboration with UN Tourism.

As the world pivots towards a digital and sustainable future, this event offers a timely opportunity for African nations to strategise and cooperate on how best to leverage tourism as a force for economic growth, cultural exchange and social transformation.

The CAF meeting and thematic conference are expected to draw tourism ministers, government officials, development partners, private sector leaders, educators, innovators, and creatives from across the African continent and beyond. Together, these stakeholders will engage in high-level dialogue focused on aligning policy frameworks, sharing best practices, and identifying opportunities to strengthen tourism’s contribution to Africa’s sustainable development goals.
The event will be structured into key sessions that delve into the transformative potential of technology and creativity in Africa’s tourism sector.

CAF Working Session – 68th Meeting of the UN Tourism Regional Commission for Africa
This official meeting will focus on advancing regional strategies, policy harmonisation, and deepening cooperation among African member states to position the continent as a globally competitive and resilient tourism destination.

Public-Private Sector Panel: Policies and Best Practices for Digital Skills and Entrepreneurship in Tourism and the Creative Industries
This session will bring together public institutions and private enterprises to highlight effective policies and real-world examples that foster digital literacy, entrepreneurship, and job creation within tourism and the wider creative economy.

Innovators’ Panel: Pioneers in AI-Driven Solutions in Tourism and the Creative Industries
A showcase of forward-thinking innovators who are leading the way in using AI and digital technologies to reimagine African tourism. Panellists will discuss tools, platforms, and applications that enhance visitor experiences, improve business efficiency, and drive social impact.

Nigeria’s hosting of the 68th CAF meeting underscores signals the country’s commitment to using tourism as a catalyst for social inclusion, innovation and sustainable development. By integrating education, technology, and culture, the thematic conference will reinforce the role of tourism not only as an economic pillar but also as a tool for empowerment and transformation.

In anticipation of this event, UN Tourism and Nigerian officials have extended an open invitation to African nations and tourism stakeholders to actively participate in shaping the future of tourism on the continent. The discussions and outcomes are expected to guide policy implementation and inspire new partnerships that will reshape Africa’s tourism landscape for decades to come.

The CAF meetings serve as a key platform for African member states to coordinate efforts, exchange knowledge and foster collaboration in the development of the tourism sector across the continent.
