Although the history of Banarasi silk sarees can be dated back to the epic story of Ramayana in the 5301 BC, the origin of Banarasi saree can be located to be around the era of the Mughal empire. So, it can be affirmative that the banarasi silk was introduced in India by the Mughal empire with its intricate weaving and designing craftsmanship. Since the silk is considered the most sophisticated yet graceful fabric in the word and moreover, the fabric was adorned by women and enormously used in the royal court. Nur Jahan Begum has always been remembered in the great biography of Shah Jahan, ‘ShahJahan nama’ for designing and popularizing new fashions and design using the fabric. The Banarasi sarees were originally embellished with threads made from real gold and silver for the royal family. Nowadays to make them much affordable, the threads have been replaced with coloured gold and silver threads
