Air Tanzania Launches Direct Flights from Johannesburg to Zanzibar

download.jpeg 2

Air Tanzania will introduce direct flights between Johannesburg and Zanzibar from 10 June, offering South African travellers greater access to East Africa’s Indian Ocean coastline. The new twice-weekly service will operate on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with the return journey routing via Dar es Salaam to enhance regional connectivity.

Outbound flights will depart Johannesburg at 2:15pm, arriving in Zanzibar at 6:45pm, following a stopover in Dar es Salaam. The return leg leaves Zanzibar at 7:35pm and lands in Dar es Salaam by 8:05pm. This development complements Air Tanzania’s existing five-times-weekly Johannesburg–Dar es Salaam route, launched in November 2023, and aligns with broader regional efforts to boost tourism through improved air access across key leisure destinations.
